| Bio: | The most painful thing I ever had to hear was that my two-year-old daughter would be disabled for the rest of her life. To look at her, she seems perfectly healthy, perfectly formed, perfectly beautiful. Happy. But a few weeks before her third birthday, Paige was diagnosed with Autism. Autism is a developmental disorder which interferes with language development and social interaction. People with Autism can shut down, shut others out, and live inside their own heads. At nearly three years old, Paige does not talk. I have never heard my daughter call me Mommy. I have never heard her say "I love you." Very fortunately for both of us, she has qualified for specialized education, services, and therapies. More fortunately for both of us, she's a very happy little girl, and many people love her. What happens now is a process of trying to unlock a little girl's secrets, to invade her world and bring her into ours. Because we miss her, here. All I want for her is happiness. All I want for me is her love. Some day, she will be able to say "I love you, Mommy." Until that day comes, this is her voice. | |||||||
